A method and device for online upgrading module based on kernel virtual machine are provided. The method and device acquire an original first running module by reorganizing and compiling the module based on kernel virtual machine, the original first running module supporting a double living mode; then a machine emulator uses firstly the first running module when upgrading online, and a second running module is compiled according to an upgraded version of the first running module code, the second running module being the updated version of the first running module; and then the machine emulator switches to use the second running module. The upgrading of the module based on kernel virtual machine can be achieved without closing the virtual machine, rapid upgrade and iteration of the module based on kernel virtual machine are made possible, and a user does not perceive in the upgrading process, therefore the core competence of the virtualization technology is enhanced.
