The present invention relates to a method for performing a magnetic resonance examination with prospective motion correction including the recording of multiple magnetic resonance (MR) signals, comprising the steps of: establishing an examination volume; establishing a navigator volume for recording navigator signals, wherein the examination volume and the navigator volume are not identical; recording at least one navigator reference signal at a time (t0); recording at least one navigator signal at a time (t1t0); determining motion information from the navigator signal and the navigator reference signal; and setting recording parameters as a function of the motion information and recording at least one further MR signal.
