A method for producing copper suboxide microparticles has a production step of producing copper suboxide microparticles by using a copper compound powder and a thermal plasma salt. This thermal plasma salt is derived from an inert gas. The production step includes a step of dispersing the powder of the copper compound using a carrier gas and dispersing the copper compound powder or the copper compound powder into water to prepare a slurry and supplying the slurry to the thermal plasma salt . It is also preferable that the producing step has a step of supplying a cooling gas to the end portion of the thermal plasma salt.
