Disclosed is a method for extending participants of a multi-participant video conference service. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method of the present invention comprises the following steps: a multipoint conference unit (MCU) gateway, which is connected to an MCU and a plurality of terminals, and receives, from each of a plurality of terminal devices, signal level information of a sound sensed through a microphone equipped in the terminal devices; the MCU gateway selects one terminal device of the terminal devices as a speaking terminal device based on the received signal level; the MCU gateway requests, to the speaking terminal device, speaking content inputted to a speaking terminal; and the MCU gateway responds to a transmission request so as to transmit the speaking content received from the speaking terminal device to the MCU.
