The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating xerostomia containing an Ixeris dentata NAKAI ethanol extract as an active ingredient. The Ixeris dentata NAKAI extract according to the present invention promotes amylase secretion, when simultaneously treating Ixeris dentata NAKAI and high concentration glucose, and reduces the expression of endoplasmic reticulum stress-related proteins, in an experiment using human salivary gland cells (HSG). In addition, oxidation-reduction environment in endoplasmic reticulum associated with protein synthesis is well-maintained when simultaneously treating Ixeris dentata NAKAI and high concentration glucose for short and long period of times.
