The present invention relates to a composition for treating or preventing liver diseases, containing a compound isolated from Corylopsis coreana Uyeki as an active ingredient. In addition, the present invention further relates to a food composition for protecting a liver and improving a liver function, containing a compound isolated from Corylopsis coreana Uyeki as an active ingredient. The compound isolated from Corylopsis coreana Uyeki causes no adverse effects since the compound is an extract derived from edible plants, and shows no cytotoxicity on liver cells while exhibiting outstanding liver cell protecting effects.
