Disclosed are a system and a method for participating in a family event online by using a social network service. The system for participating in a family event online by using the social network service comprises: a first user terminal which requests a family event notification to a second user selected from a friend list of a first user and uploads real-time videos and images of a corresponding family event; a second user terminal which receives and displays the requested family event notification, streams or downloads and displays the uploaded videos and images of the family event in real time, and requests that the first user terminal transfer expenditure for congratulations and condolences with respect to the corresponding family event; and a social network service server which generates a family event notification according to the request for family event notification uploaded by the first user terminal, provides the family event notification to the second user terminal, provides streaming or downloading of the videos and images of the family event uploaded by the first user terminal to the second user terminal in real time, and transfers expenditure for congratulations and condolences requested by the second user terminal from a preregistered virtual account of the second user to a preregistered virtual account of the first user.
