The present invention relates to a preparation method of poly(butylene carbonate-co-terephthalate) resin. According to the preparation method of the present invention, poly(butylene-co-terephthalate) resin can be manufactured using terephthalic acid as a monomer. Also, as the amount of ester residue existing in resin increases, melting point and glass transition temperature of the poly(butylene carbonate-co-terephthalate) resin increase. By adjusting molar ratio of the ester residue, the preparation method of the present invention can adjust physical properties of the resin to have desired properties. The preparation method of poly(butylene-co-terephthalate) resin comprises the steps of: a) performing an esterification reaction of terephthalic acid and 1,4-butanediol; b) performing a transesterification reaction of dimethyl carbonate and 1,4-butanediol; and c) performing a polycondensation reaction by mixing the reaction products obtained from step a) and reaction products obtained from step b).
