Provided are a synchronization signal transmission method for driving a device-to-device (D2D) operation of a terminal in a wireless communication system and a terminal using the same. The method comprises: a step of connecting the terminal to a first cell, having a first frequency, through radio resource control (RRC) connection; a step of transmitting D2D synchronization signal (D2DSS) for the D2D operation from a second cell, having a second frequency; and a step of determining whether to transmit the D2DSS, based on a reference signal received power (RSRP), received from the second cell, if the second frequency is different from the first frequency. In the present invention, a synchronization signal for a D2D operation is able to be transmitted without explicitly receiving a synchronization signal transmission command from a network.
