The present invention relates to a method for extracting a road gradient and improving fuel efficiency through a vehicle driving image. More specifically, the method for extracting a road gradient and improving fuel efficiency when driving a vehicle comprises: a first step of collecting image information by using an image device mounted on the vehicle; a second step of setting a horizontal reference line of the vehicle in a horizontal section based on the image information; a third step of discriminates at least one reference object and extracting the reference object among a utility pole in the left or right side of a road for grasping the degree of a slope, the state or shadow of a preceding vehicle, and the width of a driving road based on the image information; a fourth step of determining the gradient of a road by using the reference object of the third step; and a fifth step of controlling an electronic control unit (ECU) of the vehicle in accordance with the gradient calculated in the fourth step. The present invention is able to improve the fuel efficiency of a vehicle by inducing and controlling an ECU for an inertial driving by analyzing the curvature of a front driving road in real time.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
