The present application relates to an optical communication apparatus based on a passive optical network (PON) and an ethernet passive optical network (EPON) system including the same. The optical communication apparatus based on a PON according to an embodiment of the present invention is connected an optical line terminal (OLT) of an EPON through an optical cable. The optical communication apparatus includes: a signal receiving unit that receives an optical signal from the optical line terminal; and a subscriber unit that controls connection and maintenance of a plurality of optical network terminals (ONTs).
