The present invention relates to a device for automatically controlling ascending and descending of a pickup unit, wherein the pickup unit dispose din a baler does not colloid with a protruding natural feature. The device according to the present invention comprises: a first sensing unit installed in an agricultural vehicle to sense a protruding feature; a second sensing unit installed in a baler to sense that the protruding natural feature sensed by the first sensing unit passes through a pickup unit; a pickup unit connected with the baler in a hinge structure to be lifted to the ground or to go down to the ground according to upward or downward rotation thereof; a driving means connected between the baler and the pickup unit to provide a driving force for rotating the pickup unit; and a pickup unit ascending and descending control unit for controlling the driving of the driving means according to a result value obtained by comparing and determining sensing values inputted from the first and second sensing units.
