According to the present invention, a stereoscopic image display device is configured to modify a 3D image by modifying view data, when a viewer is not within a range of an optimized viewing distance, generate a disparity map in order not to display an stepped area generated by the modified 3D image, convert the generated disparity map into a binary code and expand an area of the disparity map, and prevent the stepped area from being recognized in an image, by preventing the stepped area from being located in the expanded disparity map. The present invention provides a stereoscopic image display device to allow a viewer to watch a 3D image, even if the viewer is not within a range of an optimized viewing distance.
