Disclosed is a wet scrubber (10) useful for cleaning process gases (F) which comprises a first spray level system (40) and a second spray level system (48) arranged compactly and vertically on the first spray level system (40) in a wet scrubber tower (14). Each spray level system (40, 48) is equipped with a plurality of flattened nozzles having a relatively broad range of spray angles for spraying an absorbing liquid (AL) supplied to the nozzles to come into contact with process gases (F) and be mixed with the same so as to eliminate environmental pollutants.
