MAINTENANCE OF BRONCHIAL PATENCY BY LOCAL DELIVERY OF CYTOTOXIC, CYTOSTATIC, OR ANTI-NEOPLASTIC AGENT

A method of maintaining the openness of the patient bronchus is presented. Place the catheter in the bronchus. One or more target regions of the bronchial wall, submucosa, midgut, and outer membrane are punctured at or near the site of the volume-reduced bronchial carcinoma using an injection needle disposed on the distal end of the catheter. This perforation is achieved by expanding the balloon disposed on the distal end of the catheter. The balloon is comprised of two or more materials of different elastic moduli, which allows the components of the elastic inflatable balloon as well as the expanding components of the flexible or relatively non-expandable balloon. Through the needles, a given amount of cytotoxic agent, cell proliferation inhibitor or anti-neoplastic agent is delivered to the target area. The delivered dose is effective in limiting recurrent bronchoconstriction due to recurrence of bronchial carcinoma by a beneficial amount of therapy.
