METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRANSFERRING INFORMATION WITHIN AND BETWEEN SYSTEM-ON-CHIPS VIA INTRA-CHIP AND INTER-CHIP HOPPING BUSES

A first system-on-chip is provided and includes non-hopping bus interfaces and a hopping bus. The non-hopping bus interfaces include a first non-hopping bus interface and a second non-hopping bus interface. The first non-hopping bus interface is configured to receive information based on a first protocol. The hopping bus includes intra-chip adapters. Intra-chip adapters are connected in series and to non-hopping bus interfaces, respectively. The intra-chip adapters are configured to (i) convert information to a first format for transmission over the hopping bus in accordance with a second protocol, and (ii) transfer information of the first format through the hopping bus and between the intra- . The second protocol is different from the first protocol. The second non-hopping bus interface is configured to receive information from the hopping bus based on the transmission of information over the hopping bus.
