The present invention relates to a cable identification system and method to which a power line communication technology is applied, which enables easy identification of a cable of a distribution system by using a radio wave limiting function that limits a radio wave of a carrier signal when a power line transmits a high frequency. A client and a server communicate with each other through a power line. The client modifies a response request message into a high frequency carrier wave to transmit the same to the server through the power line, and analyzes a response message transmitted from the server to determine an adjacent server and identify a cable.
