The present invention relates to a method for preparing a membrane by using an active layer prepared by support-free interfacial polymerization in a free surface, and more specifically, to a method for preparing a reverse osmosis membrane free of the characteristic of a support, which is configured to prepare a polymer active layer by causing an organic monomer to spontaneously react in an interface between an aqueous solution and an organic solvent and then combine the polymer active layer with a support. Reverse osmosis membranes having various supports in addition to an existing polysulfone porous support can be manufactured by using the method for preparing a membrane by using an active layer prepared by support-free interfacial polymerization in a free surface according to the present invention. This enables a limitation to the application of a reverse osmosis membrane attributable to relatively low chemical resistance and water permeability of polysulfone to be overcome. Furthermore, the method of the present invention can perform more elaborate control during preparation of the active layer than a conventional method, and, in particular, can be advantageously applied to a task for improvement in performance, such as introduction of nano-particles or the like.
