An extract of Coptis chinensis soup (Gardenia jasminoides Ellis, Coptis chinensis, Scutellaria baicalensis, and Phellodendron amurense) manufactured by a method combining distillation and decoction has an excellent antioxidant effect by containing high content of a total phenol compound and flavonoid compared with a general distillation or decoction extract, does not have cytotoxicity, is found to have an excellent anti-inflammatory effect by significantly reducing generation of nitrogen oxide (NO) of macrophages of mouse induced by LPS, and is found to easily detect an active material by HPLC analysis, so that the Coptis chinensis soup is used as an anti-oxidant or anti-inflammatory pharmaceutical composition.
