Disclosed is a digital set-top box based on a Linux operating system which is configured to operate a DVB set-top box based on the Linux operating system, improve security function for an additional service of a system operator by applying Zappware middleware and CONAX CAS security function, and improve needs of users. The digital set-top box based on the Linux operating system is connected with satellites, terrestrial communications line, and cables in order to receive live broadcast; forms a DVB network based on the Linux operating system; is connected with broadband interface including Internet in parallel to the satellites, the terrestrial communications line, and the cables; distributes CPU operating time for each service desired by a user by interworking with a Linux kernel scheduler; scrambles a broadcast signal and application program data which are inputted; and descrambles only broadcast signal and application program data of which license has been permitted.
