An electromagnetic reciprocating linear motor / alternator comprising two or more armatures adjacent to each other along a reciprocating axis. The armatures are linearly aligned along the gap path parallel to the reciprocating axis. The magnetic fields are reciprocated within the gap path. The magnetic fields include a primary magnetic field associated with each cell, and each primary magnetic field has magnetic polarity in the same direction across the gap path. The secondary field provides the centering spring force and is interposed between the primary fields. The secondary field extends axially from within the gap of one armature to the adjacent gap of the adjacent armature core. The second field has magnetically polarity in the direction opposite to the field of primary field.;
