A method for visualizing soft tissues (17) of a body, the method comprising the steps of: - obtaining first image data for a first image of an area of soft tissue of a body using an X-ray projection; - obtaining second data for a second image of an area of soft tissue of interest bodies using optical tomography; - obtain the estimated volumetric optical properties of the soft tissues of the body in the region of interest from the obtained data of the first image; - reconstruct the second an image from the second image data using the estimated volumetric optical properties; and - receive third image data for the third image of the area of interest of the soft tissues of the body using the projection of x-ray radiation; moreover, the data of the first image is obtained when the soft tissues of the body are in the first compression state, and the data of the second and third images are obtained when the soft tissues of the body are in the other second state of compression with less compression than in the first state of compression. 2.
