1. The communication system of the drill string, which uses the drill string passing from the rig to the underground tool as an electrical conductor that provides communication between them, the system includes a transceiver at the wellhead located on the rig, including a transmitter at the wellhead, which transmits a signal at the wellhead to the drill string for transmission to an underground tool; and a downhole transceiver located in the bottomhole zone near the underground tool, including a downhole transmitter transmitting a signal from the bottom of the well to the drill string for transmission to the receiver at the wellhead, which forms part of the transceiver at the wellhead, and wherein the transceiver is at the wellhead and the downhole transceiver is configured to work together to automatically modify at least one operational parameter of the signal transmission from the bottom of the well at least partially to based on the deterioration of the quality of the downhole signal detected by the transceiver at the wellhead. 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the wellhead transceiver and the downhole transceiver are configured to automatically modify the set of operating parameters of the signal from the bottom of the well in response to a deterioration in signal quality. The system of claim 2, wherein the group of modified parameters includes two or more of the following: carrier frequency, power level, baud rate and modulation mode.
