Time-of-flight mass spectrometer with an ion source, a flight path, a reflector within the flight path and an ion detector, characterized in that the reflector comprises a Cassini ion trap with two housing halves and a plurality of internal electrodes, wherein one housing half is smaller than the other housing half and with a smaller voltage difference is occupied to the internal electrodes, so that the electric fields are preserved inside the Cassini ion trap, and the shape of the reflector and the positions for the input and output of ions between the housing halves are formed so that the ions of a mass in the reflector after half a longitudinal oscillation undergo an odd integer number half transversal oscillations.
