A method of controlling an electromagnetically actuated fuel injector, comprising: if a plurality of fuel injections are closely spaced during an engine cycle: monitoring a respective desired injected fuel mass for each of the plurality of fuel injections; a desired current waveform from a plurality of current waveforms at which the desired injected fuel mass is respectively achieved is selected on the basis of at least one of the fuel injection events; and controlling the fuel injector using the desired current waveform for all of the fuel injections that are closely spaced.
