A method for the determination of microbleeds in histological sections is given. The method comprises a) reading in each case a data set of at least two sections, each of the data sets comprising m mappings of each section in m resolution levels (11, 12, 13), each mapping of the resolution levels 1 to m-1 each being divided into at least two cells wherein each of the images has a different image resolution, wherein the image with the highest image resolution is associated with the resolution level 1 and the image with the lowest image resolution is associated with the resolution level m; b) determining a candidate area containing a possible microbleed in a first image of the m images of the first section of the at least two sections; c) registering the two mth mappings of the two slices at the resolution level m and determining a global transformation for the resolution level m; d) aligning the two mappings of the resolution level m-1 using the global transformation of the resolution level m; e) registering a first subgroup of cells from all cells of the first mapping of the resolution plane m-1 and a second subgroup of cells from all cells of the second mapping of the resolution plane m-1 of the second cut of the at least two slices, wherein the cells of the first Subgroup are selected so that the candidate area is included in the first subgroup; and f) determining if the potential micro-bleeding is also present in the second subgroup.
