One method comprises obtaining a periodic voltage through a power converter having a plurality of converter cells, and alternating an average power level of a power converted by at least one converter cell of the plurality of converter cells in a series of time slots of equal duration. Each of the series of time slots corresponds to a period of time between successive zero-crossings of the periodic voltage.
