A motor-operated lock assembly for a motor vehicle locking system is configured to provide a motor-operated closing feature and a motor-operated release feature. The power-operated cinching feature is configured to hold the catch in a closing-latch engagement position with the pawl disengaged from the gear. The power-operated release feature is configured to move the catch from its closing / closing bolt engaged position to a closing aid release latch engaged position to relieve the seals prior to release of the catch into its striker release position.
