Fingerprint detection system on a steering wheel (1) comprising at least one detection unit comprising: • an optical guide (10) integrated in the rim (2) of the steering wheel, • a light source (5) emitting light in the optical guide, • return devices (11), distributed along the optical guide, returning a portion of the light (LP) to the outside of the optical guide, • optical sensors (20), distributed on the along the optical guide, said detection assembly also comprising an electronic unit for interpreting the light picked up by each of the optical sensors, and being configured so that the presence of a finger (F), in contact with or near a point located on the rim of the steering wheel, causes reflection by the finger of a fraction (LF) of the portion of the light returned by a deflection device to said finger, to an optical sensor.
