A method for predicting the locations and/or strengths of inter-modulation products in a modulated multi-carrier signal transmission, as created by the presence of a non-linear component in the transmission equipment and where the inter-modulation products create inter-modulation distortion in the transmission, comprising the step of defining the amplitudes of the modulated multi-carrier signal components wherein the amplitude of each defined signal component is quantized so that it is located within one of a plurality of distinct amplitude bands.
