A detector apparatus 100 is disclosed for detecting the route taken by a remotely controllable toy or vehicle. The apparatus comprises a substantially planar frame structure 102 defining a path or leeway 106, an electrically powerable detector 110 and an output device (202, 204, fig. 2). The frame structure may define a hoop-like shape through which the object may travel, and the detector may comprise a wireless RFID detector. The output device may include one or more light arrays which emit light upon detection of the object. A plurality of detector apparatuses may be used in a route adherence detection system (500, fig. 5) along with a processing resource to determine whether a remote-controlled object adheres to a predetermined route. An alert may be generated should the predetermined route not be followed. A method of determining adherence to a predetermined route by a remotely- controllable object (400, fig.5) is also defined.
