The test device has a direct current voltage source (1), which charges the cable (2) with voltage, and the charged cable switches to the opposite polarity by switching elements (T1). The switching elements are formed by a switcher (S1,S2,S3,S4) of a bridge circuit, where two switchers of a bridge section serve for switching the polarity at the cable by a measuring and controlling unit (3). An associated inductor (L1) as energy storage is activated by the controlled switching element during shortfall of a defined increase by the measuring and controlling unit during switching after half-wave.
