The controller has a transmission mechanism (4) comprising a transmission unit (7) that is rotatably mounted on an axle (6). The transmission unit is designed as a rocker arm (10) or a cam follower, and in a connection with a cam shaft (3) over a contact element (8) that is arranged on the transmission unit. A contact surface (19) of the contact element and a peripheral surface (20) of a cam (2) comprise partially curved and mutually corresponding contours in an axial direction (21). The transmission unit is supported on a body (11) of the axle in an axial movable manner. An independent claim is also included for a method for limiting axial immovability of a transmission unit.
