A toolpath evaluation method for evaluating a toolpath traveled by a rotating tool (T) when the rotating tool (T) machines a workpiece (W) while moving relative to the workpiece (W), said toolpath evaluation method including: a calculation step for, based on a predetermined target toolpath (R1) and the shape of the workpiece (W) before the workpiece (W) is machined by moving the rotating tool along the target toolpath (R1), calculating the dimensions of a contact area (AT) of the bottom surface portion (TB) of the rotating tool where the bottom portion (TB) is predicted to be in contact with the workpiece (W) when the workpiece (W) is actually machined by moving the rotating tool along the target toolpath (R1), said bottom surface portion (TB) intersecting the rotational axis line of the tool; and a determination step for determining that the target toolpath (R1) is inappropriate if the dimensions of the contact area (AT) exceed predetermined threshold values when the rotating tool is positioned at any location along the target toolpath (R1).
