The invention relates to a device for securing a person climbing an object comprising at least one safety climbing rung, to a system consisting of such a device with a safety climbing rung, and to a method for fastening such a device, in particular to power poles comprising safety climbing rungs. The aim of the invention is to allow an uncomplicated and simultaneously particularly secure fastening of the device to the structure. The device according to the invention for securing a person climbing an object comprising at least one safety climbing rung (12) with a loose cable (26) to be carried by the climber, said safety climbing rung (12) being a climbing bolt with an attachment eyelet (44), comprises a) at least one retaining means (30) for fixing the device (10) to the object in a specified position, b) a structural arrangement which allows the cable (26) to be guided from below into the device (10) fixed in the specified position and upwards back out of the device, and c) a mechanism which automatically blocks the cable (26) when the speed of the cable (26) through the device (10) exceeds a specified threshold, wherein d) at least one fixing mandrel (32) with at least one free end (18, 22, 36, 38) is provided as the retaining means (30) for pre-fixing the device (10) to the attachment eyelet (44) by at least partly introducing the free end (18, 22, 36, 38) into the attachment eyelet (44), and/or e) a fixing opening (62) which is formed in a retaining portion (60) and which is adapted to receive the attachment eyelet (44) is provided as a retaining means (30) for at least partly receiving the attachment eyelet (44).
