The method involves outputting a test signal to an interface of positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resistors (130A-130X) in response to a test mode to output a test sequence to the elements. Sensor information is compared with predetermined reference information, where the sensor information is received from sensors (140A-140X) associated with the interface, in response to the test signal. A correct operation of a control device (110) or a PTC heater (100) is determined when the sensor information is matched with tolerance range of the reference information. An independent claim is also included for a control device for PTC heating elements of a PTC heater for a vehicle.
