The invention relates to a data monitoring and collection system for data related to a plurality of mobile units at a defined location or route, and at a defined point in time, said system comprising: for each of said mobile units, a location unit configured for providing and transmitting location data corresponding to the position of said mobile units through a wireless communication system; said system further comprising a remote server configured for receiving said location data. Furthermore, the system (1) comprises: a database unit (8b, 8c, 8d) associated with said server (8) and configured for storing data corresponding to work-related activities associated with said mobile units (4, 10; 11); and an automatic activity generator system (8a) in said remote server (8) and configured for automatically generating an activity log (8e) based on information from said location unit (3; 3'; 3') and said database unit (8b, 8c, 8d). The invention also relates to corresponding method for monitoring and collection data related to a plurality of mobile units (4; 10; 11).
