Example embodiments provide systems and methods for managing the transmission and reception of MPEG-TS data provided over a Thunderbolt cable 104. A transmitter unit 204 receives a MPEG-TS and an Ethernet signal. The transmitter unit 204 then multiplexes data from the MPEG-TS with data from the Ethernet signal as the data from the MPEG-TS and the Ethernet signal is stored into a buffer memory 214, 216. When the buffer memory 214, 216 reaches a predetermined threshold size, the transmitter unit 204 writes the multiplexed data stored in the buffer memory as packet data to a streaming buffer in a PCIe core 220. The packet data in the streaming buffer is transmitted as a PCIe signal to a receiver unit 304 over a cable.
