PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of maintaining and using high-concentration molten copper on the surface of a useful article.SOLUTION: Provided is a method of manufacturing a copper strip, comprising: a. preparing a copper alloy strip to be processed to a predetermined thickness and predetermined antimicrobial properties; b. annealing the copper alloy strip; c. cleaning the copper alloy strip to remove oxides prior to final rolling; d. loading the copper alloy strip in a coil shape to a rolling mill for rolling to the predetermined thickness; e. making the copper alloy strip have a surface roughness between 2 and 50 microinches, the range of more accurate surface roughness being partially determined depending on the predetermined antimicrobial properties; f. loading the copper alloy strip in a coil shape to at least a semicontinuous cleaning line to remove all remaining rolling lubricant; g. using a defatting solution to remove such a lubricant; h. rinsing the copper alloy strip with water and drying; i. rewinding the copper alloy strip into the coil shape; and j. slitting the copper alloy strip to a predetermined width and packaging for shipment without coating the sides of the copper alloy strip for isolation from atmospheric oxygen.SELECTED DRAWING: None
