PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a main subject detection device capable of detecting an intended main subject from images.;SOLUTION: In an embodiment, an area of an object which frequently appears is detected as a first candidate area from plurality of images prior to specific point of time. A feature amount of the images at a specific point of time is calculated based on a piece of information on a function which uses a detection result of the main subject, and based on the calculated feature amount, a second candidate area is detected.
