PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a personal authentication method capable of shortening a time required for registering electrocardiogram.SOLUTION: A personal authentication method instructs a first position of a user's arm at the time of grasping an electrocardiographic sensor 12 (S13); measures the user's electrocardiogram at the first position by using the electrocardiographic sensor 12 (S14); instructs a second position that is a position of the user's arm at the time of gasping the electrocardiographic sensor 12 and differs from the first position (S13); measures the user's electrocardiogram at the second position by using the electrocardiographic sensor 12 (S14); accepts the user's ID information (S11); and registers electrocardiographic authentication information including first authentication information, in which the ID information and the user's electrocardiogram measured at the first position are associated, and second authentication information, in which the ID information and the user's electrocardiogram measured at the second position are associated, in a database 16 (S16, S17).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 20
