PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for highly accurately detecting a position and an opening direction of a lateral branch extending from a root canal to a periodontal space.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for detecting a position and an opening direction of a lateral branch e extending from a root canal to a periodontal space including: comparing a first measured signal value with a plurality of model teeth position measuring data group, and storing the first measured signal value and an indication value when a transition of the indication value shows a concave shape, the indication value showing a distance from a root apex position shown by the model teeth position measuring data group in a predetermined relationship to a tip of a position detecting electrode 10; and comparing a first measured signal value and an indication value of a second lateral branch position detection operation with the first measured signal value and the indication value stored in the first operation, measuring a position of a tip of the position detecting electrode by stopping the electrode when the above comparison showed agreement or within a predetermined error tolerance, and outputting the measured result as a position of the lateral branch.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
