PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide manganese oxidizing bacteria capable of producing manganese oxidized materials.;SOLUTION: A manganese oxidizing bacterium, Massillia sp. Strain NPUST-01 (Massilia sp. strain NPUST-01) having environmental protection value and high chromium oxidizing ability is provided. Since this manganese oxidizing bacterium can produce manganese oxide and its chromium oxidizing ability is extremely high, it has applicability to chromium sludge treatment. Furthermore, it can be applied to techniques for removing manganese, iron, or arsenic from groundwater or tap water, and to techniques for removing lead, uranium, strontium and the like in mines.
