PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a control accuracy for a compression ratio in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: This invention relates to a method for driving an internal combustion engine including VCR actuator 6 for use in setting a compression ratio in a cylinder 3 of an internal combustion engine 2 on the basis of a display of an actual compression ratio and includes the following steps, i.e. a step for determining a modeling actual engine torque, a modeling compression efficiency and an actual engine torque, a step for determining an actual compression efficiency on the basis of torque balance and a step for setting an actual compression ratio according to the actual compression efficiency.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
