PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection method for a coated surface, allowing for protection of coating film and suppression of spot rusting, for protecting a steel structure, and to provide a rustproof coating agent for use in the protection method.SOLUTION: The surface of a steel material constituting an objective steel structure is cleaned by spraying high-pressure water to the surface of the steel material, and then the cleaned steel material is dried, thereafter, a rustproof coating agent is applied onto the surface of the steel material. The rustproof coating agent produced by adding 1-4% of a rustproof agent mainly composed of carboxylate to 99-96% of a water-soluble acrylic coating agent is used, and coating film thickness of the rustproof coating agent formed by the application is 37.5-75 μm.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
