PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel azo-based dichroic dye, and a liquid crystal composition, a liquid crystal element and the like using the dye.;SOLUTION: The azo-based dichroic dye is represented by formula (I). In formula (I), Ar¹ represents an aromatic ring and at least one of Ar¹ is a thienothiazole ring; X¹ represents O or -NR³-; R¹ to R³ each independently represent H, an alkyl group or the like; L¹ to L³ each independently represent a divalent connecting group or a single bond; A¹ to A⁴ each independently represent a substituted/unsubstituted 1,4-phenylene group or a substituted/unsubstituted (E)-cyclohexane-1,4-diyl group; n¹ and n², and n⁴ and n⁵ each independently represent an integer of 0 or more, provided that n¹+n²≥1 and m⁴+n⁵≥2; n³ is an integer of 1 or more, and when n³ is 2 or more, two of Ar¹ or more may be the same or different from each other; and B¹ represents a group having H that can form a hydrogen bond.;SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1;COPYRIGHT: (C)2017,JPO&INPIT
