PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound wave generator for a radio acoustic sounding system (RASS) radar and the RASS radar which are excellent in directivity, which can reduce noise exposure to neighborhood, which can quickly correct the influence of wind, and which achieve large output and low cost.SOLUTION: A sound wave generator for a RASS radar transmits a sound wave and an electric wave toward the sky, measures a sound speed in an observation air space from the amount of frequency shift due to the Doppler effect of the electric wave reflected by a sound wave surface, and calculates a temperature in the observation air space from the sound speed. In the sound wave generator for the RASS radar, a plurality of sound wave transmitters 22 having super-directivity are mounted on a base plate 21, so that directivity is improved as a whole. A plurality of unit modules 20 each of which has the plurality of sound wave transmitters having the super-directivity on the base plate are two-dimensionally arrayed on a pedestal.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
