PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carriers, kits and methods for rapidly, accurately, specifically and simultaneously detecting pathogenic Escherichia coli of 7 serotypes (i.e., O26, O45, O103, O111, O121, O145, O157) which cause severe symptoms in humans.SOLUTION: The invention provides a carrier for detecting pathogenic Escherichia coli comprising an immobilized probe that can hybridize to a nucleic acid under stringent conditions, where the nucleic acid comprises a base sequence complementary to a probe having 10 specific base sequences. Also provided is a kit for detecting pathogenic Escherichia coli comprising a first primer set for amplifying a target region in DNA, where the primer set comprises forward and reverse primers of specific base sequences, and a carrier on which a probe for determining the presence or absence of an amplified product has been immobilized. Also provided is a method for detecting pathogenic Escherichia coli comprising amplifying a target region in DNA by PCR and determining the presence or absence of an amplified product.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
