PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize output density for target density even if a density ratio of the inside and outside of a sheet varies.SOLUTION: A density adjustment method performs: first formation control to cause a first color sample to be formed in a transfer region on an image holding body; first adjustment to adjust output characteristics of an image formation part so as to reduce a difference between measurement density of the first color sample and first target density; second formation control to cause a second color sample to be formed in a non-transfer region on the image holding body; second adjustment to adjust the output characteristics of the image formation part so as to reduce a difference between measurement density of the second color sample and second target density; and third adjustment to adjust the output characteristics of the image formation part so as to reduce a difference in output density between the transfer region and non-transfer region when the difference between the measurement density of the second color sample and the second target density exceeds a predetermined degree as a result of repetition of the second formation control and second adjustment.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
