PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminant comprising semiconductor nanoparticles having a high fluorescent quantum yield and little variation in the particle size and emitting fluorescent light with high color purity, a production method of the illuminant, and others.SOLUTION: The illuminant comprises semiconductor nanoparticles made of a compound represented by general formula (1) M1M2X(in general formula (1), M1 represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs; M2 represents one of or both of Ge and Sn elements; X represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of F, Cl, Br and I; m1 represents a value ranging from 0.7 to 1.3; m2 represents a value ranging from 0.7 to 1.3; and x represents a value ranging from 2.0 to 4.0). The number-basis percentage of semiconductor nanoparticles having an aspect ratio of 1.0 to 1.8 with respect to the whole semiconductor nanoparticles included in the illuminant is specified to 50% or more; and a coefficient of variance of a major diameter α of the semiconductor nanoparticles is specified to 40% or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None
